Vez por outra, as revistas especializadas publicam informações desse braço da marinha pouco conhecido: aquela que navega por rios ou brown navy . Nessas publicações, destacam-se as organizações militares do 6º Distrito Naval e, claro, fotos dos navios que a Marinha mantém lá. Por Luiz Eduardo Silva Parreira Escadarias do Forte de Coimbra, guardadas por 2 canhões  Whitworth, modelos 1863, de 32 libras (97mm) e 1 canhão  Whitworth, modelo 1881, de 70 libras (127mm). O espelho  da escada do forte é formado por granadas de Whitworth  de 32 libras. No último dia 13 de setembro , o Forte de Coimbra completou 236 anos de fundação. Desde sua criação até 1992; por 217 anos, o Forte teve como principal função impedir a livre navegação de navios inimigos pelo Rio Paraguai. A despeito de estar a mais de 1.200 quilômetros do litoral, o Forte de Coimbra era até então uma unidade de Artilharia de Costa , justamente porque utilizaria seus canhões para afundar embarcações, quando ordenado. A unidade que se ocupava dessa missão era a Primeira Bateria do Sexto Grupo de Artilharia de Costa (1°/6° GACos) . Flâmula do antigo 1/6 GACos.
